Guidelines for selecting an Arborist

Get a written bid specifying work to be done.

Ask for and check local references.

Be wary of people who go door to door offering bargain tree work.

Low price is a poor gauge of a quality arborist. (Often, better arborists are more expensive because they have more specialized equipment, offer professional help, and carry insurance.)

Ask for certification of personal, property liability and worker's compensation insurance.  You could be responsible for damages and injuries if you hire someone who is not insured.

Good arborists use only accepted practices.  Avoid arborists who top trees.

The condition of a firm's equipment often reflects its commitment to quality.

Membership in professional organizations such as ISA TCIA ASCA.
